Bette Marie Van Dorin, age 95 of Moravia, Iowa passed away Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville, Iowa.

She was born in Monroe County, Iowa on February 3, 1921, the daughter of Austin Lee and Aleafa Leona (Platt) Hiatt. Bette graduated from Moravia High School in 1937.

Bette was united in marriage to Jake Day. They later divorced. She was then united in marriage to Glen Van Dorin. Glen preceded Bette in death.

She worked at the Moravia Union Newspaper in her early adult years. She later took a position with Farm Service in Moravia. Following Glen's death, Bette attended Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa where she enrolled in administrative assistant/clerical courses. She subsequently accepted a clerical position with the Appanoose County Department of Human Services. Bette maintained her position with DHS for over twenty years until her retirement.

Bette resided in Moravia, Iowa for most of her life. She was an active member of the Moravia community throughout her adulthood, including her membership with the Grace United Methodist Church. Bette was also a member of the ETC Club, the Centerville 18-80 Club, as well as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over seventy years.

She is survived by her three children, James (Paulette) Day of Norwalk, Iowa, Vicki (Danny) Bride of Moravia, Iowa, and Bob (Sally) Van Dorin of Indianola, Iowa; ten grandchildren; twenty one great grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn Koffman of Albia, Iowa; a son-in-law, Jim Kearney of Urbandale, Iowa; two nieces and one nephew.

Bette was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glen Van Dorin; a daughter, Carol Kearney; an infant son, Dennis Paul Day; and a son-in-law, Mike Koffman.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the Grace United Methodist Church in Moravia, Iowa with Reverend Cindy Finn officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Moravia. A visitation will take place on Friday, April 15, 2016 at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia, Iowa from 12 PM-8 PM, with the family greeting friends from 6-8 PM. Memorials have been established to either the Grace United Methodist Church or to the Moravia First Responders and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
